Peace of MeMark Merritt - Peace of Me

Desperate Man Click to listen to a snippet!

By Mark Merritt, Earl Musick & John Gomez

Headed down to the corner store
Gonna do my deed.
Times are hard,
I've got a family to feed.
Don't do the crime,
If you can't do the time.
I'm losing my grip,
I'm at the end of my line.

Unemployment says
They got no work for me
It's hard to feel like a man
When you're living off charity.
Things are bad all over
Frankie's gonna drive.
You do what you need
Just to stay alive.

(Chorus)
I read somewhere
That a man in a suit and tie
Got away with thirty million
And no one had to die.
He sits in his office,
That's where he hides.
This American dream,
Seems like a scheme
And it all sounds like a lie.

All the men at the local mill
Meet at the corner bar
They stand around killing time
Watching the passing cars.

Frankie and I stayed up all night,
Hatching out our plan.
Robbing the corner store
Is an act of a desperate man.

Frankie guns the engine
I look around inside.
Look behind the counter
And saw an old friend of mine.
Look back at Frankie;
I shook my head.
I'd rather live off charity
Then see an old friend dead.

(Chorus)
